Reaching Higher Dream Team Mark HCEO (Voluntary) Why RH?RH was born out of a desire to create a space for young people to be encouraged, believed in and crucially to take the lead on projects and influence their generation. Having worked with young people for nearly 20 years I have learnt the key to quality youth engagement is to support, inspire and develop them as leaders and give them space and opportunity to raise up the next generation. The truth is they are the key. We lay the foundation but they build the house. And nothing leaves me more excited than watching a young person stepping out as a leader and inspiring someone else. It was then that I realised that young people are the very heart of the organisation. Not only this but the desires of young people have shaped what we do as an organisation and being young people led is incredibly important to me as a member of the team. Reaching Higher believes in a youth centred approach in the way in which it works and as result, this is why I choose Reaching Higher as my place of work. I started volunteering with Reaching Higher in 2013 when my daughter first started attending The Outlet. Not only did I see her growing in confidence and begin reaching her potential, Reaching Higher allowed me to develop as a leader too. Almost 6 years on and I still love everything that Reaching Higher is about and what they do. When the opportunity came up to join the team, it was one that I had no hesitation in applying for. I was so happy to get the role that I pretty much burst in to tears on the spot (slightly embarrassing but 100% genuine) I’m proud to be part of such an amazing organisation and hope to be for a good while longer!
